Des Moines is the capital of Iowa and the county seat of Polk County. In 2006, the 5 county Des Moines Metropolitian Area was ranked     92nd in terms of U.S. poputlation with 534,230 residents. A 2000 census puts the population of Des Moines proper at 198,682.

Des Moines is a major center for the insurance, financial services and publishing industries. In 2007, Forbes ranked Des Moines 4th in "Best Places for Business". Downtown Des Moines' major corporate center offers a 3.5 mile indoor skyway system to keep workers from the elements. Major businesses include: Principal Financial Group, Meredith Corporation, Ruan Transportation, Wells Fargo, ING Group and Pioneer Hi-Bred (among others).  

There is a multiple of biking and walking trails, as well as multiple parks, museums and points of interest through out Des Moines. The Capital itself is a treasure and has been enhanced with the newly revitalized East Villiage at it's feet. With forward thinking, the city planners have worked to bring downtown neigborhoods, businesses,  parks and trails together with the beautiful Principal Riverwalk.

 The city of Des Moines offers beautiful, historic neighborhoods, charming homes and mature trees. The school district stands on giving students a variety of acedemic, athletic and fine arts opportunities. Des Moines Public Schools offers Pre Kindergarten opportunities at most of their elementary schools. With approximately 63 schools within the district, there are several unique schools and academies to address student's needs.
